Catching up with Peter Crouch is always a treat. Known for his sharp sense of humour and laid-back charm, Peter always has something entertaining to say – whether it’s about his love for robots, his experience with Football Escapes, or the endless tall jokes he’s been hearing his entire life. We recently sat down with him to chat about all of this and more, and true to form, Peter didn’t disappoint.
Which robot is the best – Wall-E, Optimus Prime, or R2-D2?
Peter didn’t even hesitate. “That’s an easy one for me,” he said. “Growing up, Transformers was my favourite cartoon. Optimus Prime – he turns into a truck and then an amazing robot. Beats the rest hands down.” Turns out, even Peter can look up to someone – or something – every now and then.
You’ve probably heard every tall joke going. Which one’s your favourite?
Naturally, the conversation turned to tall jokes, because let’s be honest, Peter’s probably heard every single one of them. “What’s the weather like up there?” “Did you sleep in a grow bag?” “Do your feet hang off the bed?” You name it, Peter’s heard it. But his personal favourite? “Do you play basketball?” He explained why: “It’s an easy response. ‘No, I played football.’ Short and sweet – and it reminds them what I’m known for!”
What makes Football Escapes so special to you?
Speaking of football, Peter has a lot to say about Football Escapes, a brand close to his heart. “It’s not just a holiday,” he shared. “It’s about families coming together, having fun, and making memories that stick.” And he’s not wrong. Imagine this: your kids learning football from legends like Peter himself while you relax at a stunning, handpicked family resort. It’s football, fun, and family all wrapped into one unforgettable experience. “There’s something for everyone,” Peter added. “It’s the perfect way to spend time together – on and off the pitch.”
You’ve done a fair bit of interviewing yourself – any tips for budding interviewers?
As someone who’s interviewed everyone from football stars to Prince William, Peter’s no stranger to giving advice. When asked what makes a good interviewer, his tip was simple: “Just be yourself. A lot of people get nervous and stop acting naturally, but if you’re comfortable and relaxed, the conversation flows so much better.”
Do you ever blame things at home on your kids or the dog?
Of course, Peter’s answers are never without a good laugh. When we asked him if he ever blames things at home on his kids or the family dog, he couldn’t help but confess. “If I fart, I’ll blame the dog,” he admitted with a grin. “Don’t tell anyone, though!”
Were you really 5’9 at birth?
We also had to address a rumour that’s been floating around for years: was Peter really 5’9 at birth? He laughed at the idea. “No, I was actually quite small. I just grew steadily and was always a head above everyone else. No big growth spurts – I just stayed ahead of the game, literally and figuratively.”
Will we ever see you on Strictly Come Dancing?
And while we’ve all seen Peter’s famous lockdown dance moves, don’t expect to see him on Strictly Come Dancing anytime soon. “My wife Abbey was on Strictly and won the glitterball,” he said. “I just don’t think I’d win it, and I can’t have her holding that over me. Plus, I think she knows I’m the better dancer – but I’ll let her have that one!”
Why should families try Football Escapes?
When it comes to family time and holidays, Peter couldn’t recommend Football Escapes enough. “It’s just brilliant,” he said. “Your kids get to learn football from legends, parents can unwind in luxury, and the memories you make are priceless. There’s nothing quite like it.”
It’s always a pleasure chatting with Peter, and his love for Football Escapes is infectious. Whether he’s cracking jokes or helping families create unforgettable memories, his enthusiasm is impossible to miss. If you’re looking for a holiday that’s as fun and rewarding as it is relaxing, Peter’s got it right – Football Escapes is where it’s at.
